morton goode jackson

Morton Goode Jackson has spent his life creating art. From his obsession with high school art classes, to his sculpture study at Virginia Commonwealth University, to his early tutelage under the famed sculptor and industrial designer Jamie Machet, to his over three-decade career as a commercial designer, and to his lifelong personal focus on painting and photography, Mr. Jackson has demonstrated an ability to create profound and indelible visual impact.

His talent was acknowledged soon out of school by the graphic design world where he was able to strike an early balance between pursuing his artistic talents and the need to support his young family. As a graphic designer, then chief creative officer, and ultimately owner of his own graphic design company, his successes in this world mounted quickly and recognizably. Mr. Jackson spent 34 years creating celebrated visual communications for some of the most prestigious companies and museums around the world, including The National Gallery of Art, British Telecom, Urban Outfitters, Hewlett-Packard, Marriott, MCI, The New York Public Theater, and the Phillips Collection. He also created all branding and visual design elements for what became the #1 airline in America, as voted by the readers of Travel & Leisure.

This very successful design career earned him hundreds of national and international awards of excellence for the visual impact he created in print and electronic media. These awards included the NY Art Directors Club, PRINT Design Annual, HOW International Design Annual, London International Advertising Awards, Forbes.com Best of the Web, American Corporate Identity, a Presidential Design Award, and an induction into the Library of Congress.

In 2010, Mr. Jackson sold his graphic design firm to finally pursue his true passions full time: painting and photography. Drawing upon his experience in photography and graphic design, he creates his stylized, compelling portrait concepts. His painting focuses on strong graphic portraits inspired by the impactful directional lighting of Vermeer combined with the emotional and haunting structures of Modigliani. His work is bold yet intimate, powerful yet personal.
